Police throughout Europe will be able to track dangerous paedophiles through a new secure website.
Net-Enforce, developed by Glasgow University, will target paedophiles without them even knowing. Up to 50 agencies involved in child protection will swap information on child sex abuse.
The site, believed to be the first of its kind in Europe, will only be available to those authorised to use it. Dr Andy Bilson, of the Centre for Europe's Children, said: "As well as tackling illegal practices such as the trafficking of children and sex tourism, countries are devising strategies for the prosecution of offenders and developing measures for effectively protecting child victims and witnesses.
"Due to the sensitivity of the personal data involved most of the information has to be handled very carefully, but it does have to be shared."
He added: "Success depends largely on effective co-ordination and exchange between all parties involved in tackling sexual exploitation." PA
