Addis Ababa - Ethiopia and Eritrea moved close to outright war yesterday as Addis Ababa accused its neighbour of launching an air strike against a border town. Asmara denied this and counter-charged that Ethiopia was preparing "full-scale" hostilities.
The Ethiopian government issued a communique saying two Eritrean fighter-bombers attacked the northern town of Adigrat at 7.45 a.m (Irish time) yesterday. Eritrea, in a Foreign Ministry statement, dismissed the claim as "complete fabrication".
