London - Self-confessed "shop-aholic" Elton John yesterday put on sale 10,000 outrageous outfits from his flamboyant wardrobe to raise money for his AIDS Foundation. Buyers spent more than £50,000 in nine hours on some of the outfits, which were valued new at around £2.5 million.
"If I have one addiction left in my life these days it is shopping," confessed the rock star. Clutching a bright orange Versace suit being put on sale one-tenth of its original price, he cut the pink ribbon at his London Out of the Closet shop to open the sale.
John, who bought the 10,000 outfits in just three years of frenetic shopping splurges, said: "I just love buying clothes - especially knowing that all my purchases will ultimately be recycled to raise money for charity."
