At least 11 people were killed today when a train crushed a van on a level crossing near the town of Lorca in south-eastern Spain.

The victims were all immigrants from Ecuador who were travelling to work on farms nearby, a spokesman said.
"There could be more bodies in the tangled wreckage," officials said.
The mayor of Lorca Mr Miguel Navarro said: "We don't know exactly how many victims there are . . . There were 25 people in the train but they've only suffered bruises. All the occupants of the van except one have died."
