Elderly man seriously hurt in Belfast robbery

An elderly man suffered a serious head wound in an aggravated burglary in east Belfast this morning.

An elderly man suffered a serious head wound in an aggravated burglary in east Belfast this morning.

The man was attacked by two men who broke into his house at Craigie Park and demanded money.

A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman said the men tried to suffocate their victim with a pillow before hitting him on the head with a frying pan. The attakers escaped with £30 and some bank cards.

The spokesman said neighbours heard the injured man gasping for air and raised the alarm.
