Eircell adopted the dual brand, Eircell Vodafone, on October 1st of last year and has been working towards full brand migration since that time. This process forms part of the Vodafone's global brand-migration strategy, which aims to position it as one of the top 10 global brands by 2004.
Commenting on the brand change, Vodafone Ireland chief executive Mr Paul Donovan said: "The move to the Vodafone brand comes at a time when we have embraced Vodafone's global strategy on voice, data and Internet-based services".
As part of the rebranding campaign the first three Vodafone "concept" stores open tomorrow - on Grafton Street in Dublin, Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork and O'Connell Street in Limerick. Over the coming months ,there will be a national network of 42 Vodafone stores.
The concept stores, branded wholly in Vodafone's trademark red colour, will provide a sales service and provide advice and consultancy on new mobile technology and applications.
To coincide with the launch of the concept stores, Vodafone is introducing a new payment method for customers. They can now pay most of the cost of their phone on their monthly bill rather than paying for it up-front.
