Eight police officers hurt in Belfast attack

Eight police officers were injured when they were attacked by a crowd in north Belfast overnight.

Eight police officers were injured when they were attacked by a crowd in north Belfast overnight.

Police responded to a report of a houses being attacked on the Cavehill Road at about 2 a.m. but were attacked by a "hostile" crowd of 20 people when they arrived.

One officer suffered a broken finger; the others had cuts and bruising. Three people were arrested for public order offences.

During the fracas, windows were smashed, cars damaged and rubbish set alight.
