Eight men arrested in Limerick are due to appear before the Special Criminal Court later this morning in connection with membership of an illegal organisation.

A ninth man, held for questioning since Monday, was released.

The nine had been held at Henry Street Garda Station, Limerick.

The men, who are from Limerick, Clare, Tipperary and Kildare, had spent a second 24-hour-period in detention under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, which allows for a maximum detention period of 72 hours.
