The six winners of the Merville Lay Seminars, a competition to encourage young scientists to share their work with the general public, will be presented with their awards at a function in the O'Reilly Hall of UCD this evening (tues).
The winning students, all PhD researchers from UCD's departments of Pharmacology and Biochemistry, will present their work to a panel of non-scientific judges, chaired by Bunny Carr. In this era of rapid scientific development - when unprecedented funding is being devoted to scientific research - the subjects analysed by the young scientists are of special interest. They include the study of heart disease, gum disease, inappropriate blood clots and the prevention fo damage to blood vessels.
