FORMER Taoiseach and partially successful libel plaintiff Albert Reynolds will address this month's one day business conference organised by UCC's Commerce and Economics Society. Perhaps ironically for Albert, who got one penny out of his recent libel action against the Sunday Times, the topic of the conference is "Sustaining an economic momentum", a subject that must be close to his heart with a £1 million legal bill hanging over him.
The Commerce and Economics Society hosted its first business conference in 1982 and this year sees it continue its tradition of attracting the cream of the business world. Arnold O'Byrne, managing director of Opel Ireland, Dan Flinter, chief executive of Forbairt, and the 1996 European Entrepreneur of the Year, Julie Coleclough, will be among those addressing the conference.
The conference takes place at Jurys Hotel, Cork, this Thursday and will be officially opened by the president of UCC, Dr Michael Mortell. Reservations can be made with the conference director, Amy Burke (tel: (021) 902824).
