Living with Dyspraxia seminar: The Dyspraxia/DCD (Developmental Co-ordination Disorder) Association, Cork, is hosting a one-day seminar, in the Ambassador Hotel in Cork city on Saturday, August 28th.

Dr Pat Henn, clinical psychologist Róisín Reid and occupational therapist Aishlinn Pierce, who are part of the medical team in the country's only dedicated hospital DCD unit in St Finbarr's Hospital, Cork will make presentations.

The day will also include presentations by a speech and language therapist, a physiotherapist and an orthoptist, all of whom work with the children who attend the unit. The seminar runs from 9 a.m. to

4.30 p.m. and will cost €30, including lunch.

Dyslexia In-Service Training Course

The Dyslexia Association of Ireland is holding an in-service training course for teachers at Wynne's Hotel, Lower Abbey Street, Dublin 1 on September 18th and 25th and October 2nd and 16th. Deaf Studies Conference

Developing Deaf Studies in Ireland will be the theme of a major conference at Trinity College Dublin's Centre for Deaf Studies next month."Encouraging Signs: Developing Deaf Studies in Ireland" will take place from Thursday, September 9th to Saturday, September 11th. This is the first time a deaf studies conference has been held in Ireland.

Keynote speakers include Markku Jokinen, president of the World Federation of the Deaf, who will examine the "Policy, Politics and Rights of Deaf People: the Global Challenges" and Prof. J.G. Kyle from the Centre for Deaf Studies, University of Bristol, who will focus on the issue of "Living and Learning Bilingually - Deaf Experiences and Possibilities".

Other topics to be addressed during the conference include, the role of linguistics in promoting recognition of signed languages, applied linguistics developments in interpreting and teaching signed languages, living and learning bilingually and deaf culture, community and identity.
