Sun rises for Red Kettle.

Bon Voyage to 20 Waterford children who are on their way to represent Ireland at the World Festival of Children's Theatre in Toyama, Japan. Only 22 countries have been selected to perform at the festival. The Little Red Kettle Theatre Company will perform a play written and directed by artistic directors Liam Meagher and Ben Hennessy.

Young critic competition.

There's a competition also - the Aerly Bird Transglobal Young Film Critics Competition - in which fledgling critics are invited to write a criticism of any film recently viewed. Prizes will be awarded at the festival's closing night film on Thursday, December 2nd at UCI Tallaght. Open days time again. Mater Dei Institute of Education on Clonliffe Road, Dublin, will hold an open afternoon on Friday, December 3rd, between 2 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. It's aimed at students, guidance counsellors, teachers and parents. NUI Maynooth will have two open days at the end of this month - Friday, 26th and Saturday 27th. Friday will kick off at 9.30 a.m. and run until 3.30 p.m. while Saturday is from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. The open days will be held on the university's north campus.

The American College Dublin at 2 Merrion Square will host an open evening on Monday next between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The National College of Art and Design will hold its open day on Thursday, December 2nd. The NCAD is at 100 Thomas Street in Dublin. It will run from 9.30 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Junior Dublin film festival.

The tenth Junior Dublin's Film Festival is up and running at UCI Cinemas in Blanchardstown, Coolock and Tallaght, the Irish Film Centre, IMAX, Tallaght County Library and Bray Cineplex. There will be films and workshops on animation, direction and production over a two-and-a-half-week run. Films being screened include the Irish animation film, the French which features the four-year-old Victoire Thivisol - winner of the best actress at the Venice Film Festival recently - and the USA animation film

The Iron Giant, featuring the voice of Jennifer Aniston in a story set in the US in 1957.
