The colleges offer a range of courses including Post Leaving Certificate, adult education, second chance education, VTOS and repeat Leaving Certificate.

In particular students should note that this is the final date for restricted application courses. Forms should be sent to CAO Tara House, Eglinton Street, Galway.

Have you heard the call? To the silver screen, that is. Have you been beckoned to work behind the camera by the great celluloid finger in the sky. Any second-level students between the ages of 12 and 18 who are interested in film-making are invited to submit their own films to compete in the Irish Schools Video Competition, which is a component of the Fresh Film Festival that runs over two days from Wednesday, April 5th in Limerick. Application forms are available from the Fresh Office at the Belltable Arts Centre, 69 O'Connell Street, Limerick, fax (061) 319555.

The work of the winner and those who are short-listed will be screened at the Fresh Film Festival. The core aim of the festival is to create a greater awareness and understanding of film and video among young people in Ireland.

A refresher course with talks focusing on European art, Irish art and general appreciation and design, kicks off at the National Gallery of Ireland on Saturday, February 5th at 3 p.m. There will be talks each Saturday throughout the month of February. It is hoped that these study days "will provide a handy refresher course for exam students". The fee per day is £8 and a season ticket for four days is £25. Tickets are available from the gallery.

Watch out for a cross-border schools photographic exhibition, which is currently travelling to a range of schools and other venues north and south of the border. On February 14th, it opens in Belfast's Waterfront Hall where it will remain until the 26th and then it will resume its travelling again, opening for a time in each county until the end of October. Entitled "Exploring Identity" the show represents the work of 32 students from Hazelwood Integrated College in Belfast and St Vincent's Secondary School in Dundalk who took part in a Gallery of Photography Education programme.
