CHARITY CD LAUNCHEDSeán Bán Breathnach was guest at a function in Gairmscoil Mhuire Athenry earlier this month, launching Ceol na Scoile, a CD of Christmas carols in Irish as well as the likes of Rudolph, Hallelujah, Oíche Ciúin (Silent Night), and Amhrán na bhFiann.
Transition Year students worked with the school choir and teachers to produce the CD, which will raise funds for the paediatric unit in Galway University Hospital and the music department in the school. It is available in shops around Athenry and Galway city for €10.
COMPUTERS FOR SCHOOLS
Patrick O’Doherty, a fifth-year student at Gonzaga College in Dublin, is among the students involved in the Camara appeal to help fund the transportation of thousands of donated computers to schools and learning centres across Africa.
“We fix them up if they need fixing, then we install educational software on them, box them up, and ship them to schools in developing countries,” he says.
A €10 donation covers the cost of transporting one computer, and donors will receive a Christmas card with a unique tracking number to allow them follow the computer to its final destination. www.camara.ie
