Stanhope Street National School on Manor Street, Dublin 7, is submitting outline plans to replace its existing substandard school with a spanking new three-storey, 20-classroom building. Standing in the grounds of Stanhope Street Convent, the development will include a library, staffrooms and a general purpose room.

However, the theatre and ancillary rooms attached to the existing school will be retained, as well as the stone boundary wall on to Kirwan Street. In addition, there will also be provision for 22 car-parking spaces.

Across the city in Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, Rockbrook Park boys' school is soon to have a female counterpart.

Rosemont Girls' School in Blackrock, Co Dublin, has secured a decision to grant permission to build a new school within the grounds of Rockbrook Park School on Edmonstown Road.

The proposed two-storey school will have space for up to 150 pupils, as well as all modern facilities.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education and Science proposes to build a national centre for secure care at the Special Schools Centre at Oberstown, Lusk, Co Dublin.

The development will include a new single-storey 840-squaremetre building with six bedrooms and a support recreational, educational and administrative facility.
