MY TY WEEK - Tammi Strickland (16), Mount Sackville School, Dublin 20'TRANSITION YEAR has given me a little bit more time to explore my own projects. I'm working on a modernised version of Romeo and Juliet and I've also set up my own little web business.

“We studied Romeo and Juliet in third year, but a lot of people found it difficult to understand the English. I’m writing a version in the form of a rap. As well as the rap, I’m composing and writing music for the play. I’d love to get it published so people might better remember and understand the play.

“My web business, juniormindmaps.com, came about through my own technique for summarising information in lots of different subjects. It’s a visual technique I used for studying and it has proven quite effective for me.

“I did well in the Junior Cert mocks but got sick before the Junior Cert itself and missed the exams. Luckily my results from the mocks were good and this allowed me to go forward. The illness is under control now, although it will be with me for the rest of my life.

“I always thought my mind maps would be just for myself, but sharing them is a good idea. My dad helped me to design a website where people can come and download one mind map from every subject. If they find them helpful they can come back and buy the entire set of mind maps. It costs €9.95 for each subject, which could contain up to 50 mind maps.

“It’s been a big endeavour to get this going, but I hope it will be a useful tool for Junior Cert students.”
