Also for Irish teachers, comes a new bi-lingual publication with an accompanying tape from Bord na Gaeilge which is aimed at second-level students who may want to follow a career that allows them use Irish.

Gairmeacha le Gaeilge don Mhilaois is written by Rhoda O'Connor. There are sections under headings such as security, communications, the public service, leisure and sport, education and teaching and heritage. "For too long," says the writer, "many pupils, and indeed their parents, have tended to regard Irish as over-academic, a subject not quite in harmony with the demands of careers and employment.

"It is time to de-mystify some of the hoary myths regarding Irish and careers," she says. The book and tape have already been sent to schools but for those teachers who want one of their own, it is available free from Bord na Gaeilge.
