The Irish Times Children's Literature Forum, the opening session of the eighth annual Summer School on Children's Literature organised by Children's Books Ireland (CBI), takes place in the Dublin Writers' Museum, Parnell Square, Dublin, from next Friday until Sunday. The school, the theme of which is Images and Ages, is aimed at teachers, librarians, parents, writers and anybody interested in children's books. The cost is £60 for members of the CBI and the Irish Writers' Union, £70 for non-members and £30 for students and unwaged.

Keynote speaker at the forum, which will be opened by INTO general secretary Senator Joe O'Toole, is Michael Foreman, the Suffolk-born author of War Boy: A Country Childhood, The General and Farm Boy. James Watson, whose book, Justice of the Dagger, deals with the situation in East Timor, will speak on Saturday afternoon. Other speakers include Allan Ahlberg, Morag Styles, Jacqueline Wilson and Nick Sharratt.

The opening forum, Images for All Ages, starts at 7.45 p.m. on Friday.
