The Plumbers Sinfonia are off to Geneva in November to demonstrate the intimate connection between physics and music. Directed by Gordon Douglas, Sinfonia members are physics students from Irish universities who produce melodious sounds by blowing, rubbing and striking an assortment of musical instruments made from plastic plumbing pipes.

It's all part of Physics on Stage, a festival that focuses on improving methods of teaching physics and bring together teachers and students from 22 European countries. Irish audiences will have a chance to hear the band when they return from Geneva to take part in Science Week Ireland, from November 12th to 19th.
