Edinburgh - Street prostitutes have been provided with a new official tolerance zone, where they will be allowed to solicit discreetly for clients.

Up to 10 prostitutes will be allowed to gather along the 200-metre business strip, but only after 8 p.m., when the businesses have closed.

The move was in response to complaints by residents in the previous semi-official tolerance zone, created to give health agencies access to the women and try to curb the spread of HIV and AIDS.
