Ankara - The Prime Minister-designate, Mr Bulent Ecevit, announced yesterday that he is abandoning attempts to form a Turkish government following his failure to put together a new coalition.
The President, Mr Suleyman Demirel, had called on Mr Ecevit, a 73-year-old former premier and head of the Democratic Left party, to form a government.
