Two hundred workers at Dunnes Stores, members of the Manne Port and General Workers' Union will vote today on strike action over the 3 per cent productivity increase to staff.

The MPGWU is the smallest union at Dunnes Stores and if it votes to strike it will only affect the stores in The Square and Kilnamanagh in Tallaght, Co Dublin. But it is likely to speed up responses from the other unions which represent 90 per cent of the company's employees.

Last week employees rejected the latest settlement terms from the company in the long running dispute by 14 to one. Dunnes offered to backdate the 3 per cent to January 1st this year, but the Labour Court recommended that it should be backdated to last September.

A spokesman for Dunnes Stores said yesterday that the company "would regret that any of the unions would choose the option of strike action".
