Bitter Dublin rivals Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians were this evening pitted against each other in the draw for the FAI Carlsberg Cup semi-final.

Derry City must make the arduous trek south to Turners Cross to play Cork in the other mouthwatering tie.

New Rovers boss Liam Buckley has endured a miserable start to the league campaign but will no doubt relish the challenge of overturning the 3-2 defeat inflicted by Stephen Kenny's side at the start of August.

But Cup holders Bohemians sit pretty at the top of the Premier Division and will start as favourites to reach a third successive final - despite having to concede home advantage to Rovers.

The sides clashed at the semi-final stage two seasons ago when a Glen Crowe strike two minutes from time saw the Gypsies through. Bohemians, then under the guidance of Roddy Collins, subsequently progressed to beat Longford 1-0 in the final.

Derry are another team in flying form but their trip to Cork is a daunting one.

Cork continue to entertain the swelling crowds at the Cross and the raucous atmosphere generated in a cup semi-final will surely test the bottle of any visiting side.

And only last weekend, Liam Murphy's side demonstrated their quality when bravely clawing back a two goal deficit to shock Shamrock Rovers 3-2.

But Derry travel in fine fettle themselves and have already claimed the notable scalp of St Patrick's Athletic in both league and cup.

Both games are to be played on the week ending Sunday, October 6th.
