A planned strike by airport police and fire crew members at Dublin Airport has been averted.

Managers at the airport met representatives of the Airport Police Service this afternoon following a vote for strike action.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the SIPTU Airport Police Fire Service committee said it was now satisfied that sufficient progress had been made to allow it to defer the industrial action.

SIPTU Regional Secretary, Mr Brendan Hayes said the committee will meet again on Friday week to consider what progress has been made in the intervening period and will make a further decision at that time.
