Police in Belfast have begun an investigation into a drive-by shooting in the city today.

A group of people were standing outside a house at Cooke Street in the Lower Ormeau Road area of south Belfast this afternoon when the driver of a car moving slowly passed opened fire.

He fired a number of shots before speeding off. Several shots hit the front of the house but no one was injured.

A PSNI spokesman said it is not thought there was a sectarian motive for the attack.
