Religious faith has been a major civilising influence in the world, the Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Desmond Connell, told worshippers at a Mass for Ascension Thursday in Maynooth yesterday.
Dr Connell said faith had inspired supreme achievements in art, literature, philosophy and theology and "made ready the soil where the growth of Western science formed its roots."
