Padraic McCormack was elected chairman of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party following the recent heave. Last week, Louis Belton was elected vice-chairman. Both men, who were unopposed, are amazed that they have followed such similar paths in life. McCormack, who represents Galway West, was born in Longford, as was Longford-Roscommon deputy Belton. They started at Kenagh National School on the same day and entered the Dail on the same day in 1989.
