A judge has ordered the director of the Central Mental Hospital to prepare a psychiatric report on a patient or appear before Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in one week. Judge Kieran O'Connor said the court had ordered the report three times and said the situation was now "totally unsatisfactory". He ordered Dr Charles Smith to prepare the report on Andrew Cleary as the situation was now "very frustrating".
The court heard that Cleary, (23), of Royal Terrace, Dun Laoghaire, was a former patient in the Central Mental Hospital and has been transferred to Portlaoise prison where he is awaiting sentencing for burglary, possession of a knife and threatening to cause serious harm. Judge O'Connor also ordered that a medical report be prepared by Dr Smith or another doctor in the hospital and adjourned the case to July 1st.
