Journalists at Cork's Examiner newspaper group are to be balloted on industrial action in a dispute over the dismissal of a member of the editorial staff.
Following a chapel (union branch) meeting of the National Union of Journalists yesterday, the NUJ has demanded the man's reinstatement, saying it would ballot members on action "up to and including strike" to achieve this.
The company said last night it acknowledged the dismissal of the staff member but had not been formally notified of the chapel's decision. "Normal industrial relations procedures apply in this case as in any other."
