The High Court has awarded almost €750,000 to a severely disabled girl for her future accommodation needs.

Charlotte Barry (5), O’Connell Gardens, Bath Avenue, Sandymount, Dublin, was born severely disabled at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin, on September 9th, 2005. It was claimed the treatment given to Charlotte’s mother, Aisling Campbell, was negligent and led to the child’s cerebral palsy.

Last July Charlotte received €1.65 million in part settlement of her action over negligence in the circumstances of her birth at the hospital, which had admitted liability. The costs of her accommodation needs remained in dispute. Mr Justice Iarfhlaith O’Neill ruled she should be awarded €735,177 compensation for future accommodation needs.
