Madrid - Four key defendants appeared in the GAL trial in Madrid this week, Paddy Woodworth writes. Three of them corroborated last week's evidence implicating the former Socialist government in a 1980s "dirty war" against ETA which claimed 27 lives. The fourth, Mr Rafael Vera, a former deputy Interior Minister, firmly denied all the allegations against him.
