Deutsche Telekom chief executive Mr Ron Sommer faces a cliffhanger vote of confidence today as the company's supervisory board was split ahead of a meeting called to decide his fate.
Deutsche Telekom chief executive Mr Ron Sommer has resigned with immediate effect.
The company's supervisory board is yet to make a decision on his successor.
Mr Sommer said he didn't believe the supervisory board stood behind him and his strategy any more.
He said: "If a management board chairman does not have the full trust of the supervisory board... resignation is the only step."
Mr Sommer says the management board has approved a further cost-cutting programme in order to cut the company's net debt more quickly.
His position was on the line at an emergency board meeting of the German phone giant.
