Derry residents evacuated over pipe bomb

A pipe bomb which was left on a Derry footpath has been defused by the British army.

A pipe bomb which was left on a Derry footpath has been defused by the British army.

The device was found on Abercorn Road in a mainly nationalist area after an anonymous telephone call to the RUC early this morning.

People from about 100 houses in the area were evacuated and the area cordoned off.

Residents were temporarily moved to Salvation Army and St John's Ambulance centres in the city.
