A butcher went on the rampage in a village in south-west France today as he knifed six people, four of them children.
The man (49) attacked his victims in the bakery in the middle of Sallebouef, in Bordeaux's Gironde region.
Police said the motive behind the stabbings was not clear. "We can suppose that this is a man who lost his senses, but that remains to be verified," police spokesman said.
Four of those hurt were children, he added.
