The former Welsh Secretary, Mr Ron Davies, is beginning his political comeback after being selected as a Labour candidate for the Welsh Assembly. Party members in his Caerphilly constituency and in neighbouring Cynon Valley approved his candidature by 55 per cent on the first ballot in the selection process at the weekend. Mr Davies (52), who resigned from the London government last October after "an error of judgment" on Clapham Common, faced tough competition from local Labour activists.
