A Greek neurosurgeon who challenged his dismissal from a Dublin hospital in the High Court is to have his appeal heard in the Supreme Court next year. Dr Christos Georgopoulos lost his High Court case to have his dismissal from Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, ruled invalid. He is appealing that decision.

Yesterday in the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice, Mr Justice Hamilton, fixed February 3rd, 1997, for his appeal hearing.

In the High Court ruling in 1993, Mr Justice Murphy said Dr Georgopoulos was given ample opportunity by the hospital board to deal fully with allegations that he was unavailable to medical and nursing staff while on duty and thereby placed the management and care of patients at risk.
