Cyclist dies after 'hit and run'

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to a crash in Co Monaghan in which a man died last night.

Gardaí are seeking witnesses to a crash in Co Monaghan in which a man died last night.

The 23-year-old cyclist was killed in a suspected hit and run incident on the N2 Carrickmacross to Castleblaney Road at about 10.15pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Garda spokesman said the vehicle had failed to stop following the crash.

He said the road was currently closed pending completion of an examination of the scene by a Garda technical team.

Meanwhile, a woman cyclist in her 30s has died in hospital after being hit by a lorry on the Newtownards Road in Belfast this morning.

Police appealed for witnesses to come forward.
