A 13-year-old youth who set fire to neighbours' houses will continue to be subject to a curfew. Yesterday, Judge Carroll Moran further deferred imposing sentence at Kerry Circuit Court.
The judge had read reports on the youth and said he shared the concern of Judge Kevin O'Higgins, who had previously deferred sentencing until the youth could be assessed and counselled.
The youth had pleaded guilty to five charges of arson, three of burglary, one of attempted burglary, one of criminal damage and one of larceny.
At the previous hearing, Garda Gerard Scott said the boy got out of his home during the night, set fires in houses in which people were sleeping, and watched as they blazed.
Garda Scott told Judge Moran that when the case was adjourned earlier, strict bail terms were imposed for his supervision by his parents, including the installation of an alarm system in his bedroom to signify any departure.
Garda Scott agreed with Mr David Sutton BL, that the accused and his parents had complied strictly with the terms.
Judge Moran adjourned the case until November 11th on condition that the youth and his parents comply with any request of the Probation and Welfare Service and receive counselling.
In addition, the accused is to submit to any parental direction and abide by a curfew from 9.30 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the bedroom alarm system and counselling are to be continued.
