ZAGREB - Croatian police arrested a former policeman who told a newspaper he killed 72 people, most of them ethnic Serbs, in the early days of the 1991-95 Serb-Croat war, state television said yesterday.

Mr Miro Bajramovic, a member of a Croatian paramilitary police unit fighting against the Serbs, was arrested in the village of Dodos, south of Zagreb.

"With my own hand I killed 72 people, there were also nine women. We made no difference, we asked no questions - for us, they were Chetniks [Serb extremists] and enemies," he told the Split-based weekly Feral Tribune. - (Reuter)
