Conference to focus on job opportunities

The Law Society is holding a conference on New and Emerging Opportunities for the Legal Profession next Monday, November 30th.

The conference will focus on business areas poised to go through significant change and development over the next few years and the place practising lawyers can have in these developments.

Governance, environment and energy, EU and international business, and regulation and compliance will be examined.

Speakers include Prof Niamh Brennan of UCD, Martin Territt BL of the European Commission, Dr Mary Kelly of the Environmental Protection Agency, and Kevin Prendergast of the Office of the Director of Corporate Enforcement.

Flac lecture on access to justice

The Free Legal Advice Centre’s (Flac) third annual Dave Ellis Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Dr Maurice Hayes on the subject Access to Justice. It will take place at the Presidents’ Hall of the Law Society, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7, on Tuesday, December 1st, at 6pm.

Brian Walsh Memorial Lecture

The Irish Society for European Law annual Brian Walsh Memorial Lecture takes place this Wednesday at 6.30pm in St Michan’s Church, Church Street, Dublin 7. The lecture, Constitutional Courts and the Lisbon Treaty, will be delivered by Mrs Justice Susan Denham and chaired by Mr Justice Nial Fennelly.

Forum to discuss Intel decision

The Irish Society for European Law is holding a forum on the Intel decision at the offices of Matheson Ormsby Prentice Solicitors, 70 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2, next Monday, November 30th.

Speakers include Nicholas Banasevic of the European Commission and Dr Francis O’Toole of Trinity College Dublin. Cormac Little, partner in the competition and regulation unit of Matheson Ormsby Prentice, will chair the forum.

Thomson Round Hall conferences

Thomson Round Hall is holding a conference on New Damages in Personal Injuries Cases next Saturday at the Law Library Distillery Building from 9am to 1.30pm.

On December 5th it is holding a conference on New Property Law, which covers the implications of the Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009 and the Residential Tenancy Tribunal Jurisprudence. It will take place at the Westbury Hotel, Grafton Street, Dublin.

AL Goodbody has won the 2009 Irish Law Firm of the Year award at Lawyer magazine’s European Awards in Barcelona.
