Award for Irish trainee solicitors
A team of trainee solicitors from the Law Society of Ireland and leading Irish law firms has won the 13th Annual International Environmental Moot Court (Mock Trial) Competition at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida.
The mock trial examined the conflict between economic development and environmental protection, and involved the team representing a nation in simulated proceedings before the International Court of Justice.
The Law Society team comprised Carol Eager (William Fry), Ellie Dunne (AL Goodbody) and Michelle Cunningham (Arthur Cox). They were coached by the Law School’s director of education, TP Kennedy.
Carol Eager was named best speaker in the international competition. The team also won second place overall for their written submission, and Ellie Dunne was named third-best speaker.
Sixteen teams from eight countries – Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Ukraine, the US and Ireland – competed.
