Father and son stabbed in Tralee by man trying to break into car

A 47-year-old man and his son (17) stabbed during altercation outside their home

A 47-year-old man and his teenage son have been stabbed in Co Kerry this morning after an individual attempted to break into a car outside their home.

Gardaí in Tralee said that at approximately 6am an unknown male entered the grounds of the house at Woodbrook Lawn, Tralee.

A spokesman said the individual interfered with a car parked in the driveway before making his way to the rear of the building where he was confronted by the home owner and his son.

An altercation occurred resulting in the home owner, a 47-year-old man, receiving stab injuries to his leg while his 17-year-old son also received minor stab wounds during the incident.

Emergency services were called and the home owner and his son are currently being treated in Kerry General Hospital.

Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and both the man and his son are expected to make a full recovery.

The unknown assailant fled the scene in the direction of Monavalley Road. He is described as being between 178cms (5ft 10in) and 180cms ((5ft 11in) in height with light blonde, short hair, slim build and wearing a black hoodie with white stripes on the sleeves.
