Evidence delay in case of Sunset House murder accused

A man charged with the murder of Michael Barr, who was shot at the Sunset House pub in Dublin, has been further remanded in custody pending the preparation of a book of evidence.

Eamonn Cumberton (29) with an address at Mountjoy Street, Dublin 7, is accused of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of father-of-five Michael Barr (35) on April 25th at the Sunset House pub.

Mr Barr, from Co Tyrone, had worked as a manager at the pub at Summerhill Parade in north inner city Dublin.

Mr Cumberton faced his fourth hearing when he appeared before Judge Victor Blake at Cloverhill District Court on Friday.

Judge Blake further remanded him in custody to appear again on Aug. 19 next. A book of evidence has to be served on him by the DPP. He was charged earlier and had originally appeared at a special sitting of Dublin District Court on May 29th.

At that hearing, Det Sergeant Brian Delaney had said Mr Cumberton made no response when charged.

Mr Cumberton has been granted free legal aid because he was unemployed with no income other than social welfare. He was then remanded in custody.

Due to the nature of the charge, a bail application would have to be brought to the High Court.

Mr Cumberton has not yet indicated how he will plead.
