Man cleared of attempted murder hospitalised, court hears

A Dublin man found not guilty of attempted murder by reason of insanity earlier this year has been admitted to the Central Mental Hospital in Dundrum for two weeks.

Lateef Bello (42) from Pheasants Run in Clonee, Dublin 15 pleaded not guilty at the Central Criminal Court in January to the attempted murder of Adejoke Opesusi at Littleplace by reason of insanity on February 19th, 2012.

He was also found not guilty by reason of insanity to burglary, criminal damage, endangerment and assault causing harm.

Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist Dr Sally Lenihan told the court on Monday she had assessed Mr Bello on February 10th, 2013.

“It is my opinion that Mr Bello suffers from paranoid schizophrenia. He was suffering at the time which led him to believe that his wife was unfaithful to him and he thought he was dead.”

“It is my view that he requires ongoing treatment because of the nature his behaviour when he is not being treated. I recommend that he be admitted to the Central Mental Hospital for a period of not more than 14 days to assess whether he requires further inpatient care.”
