The Irish League of Credit Unions has said it is considering taking "direct, radical action" after the Minister for Finance, Mr McCreevy, said he would not meet them to discuss taxation. Mr Tom Kelly, spokesman for the ILCU, said the action might include closing credit unions, a public demonstration or an advertising campaign.
Mr Kelly said they had secured the support of every non-governmental political party, ail, including the Independents, for their taxation campaign. ail who supported the campaign. The ICLU wants the Government to implement recommendations of a working group which proposed the first £375 of credit union savings be exempted from tax, and savings between £375 and £750 taxed at 20 per cent.ail next week.
