A Co Kerry man who is accused of unlawfully killing his uncle told gardai that he "dumped the body head-first into a well" after his father had beaten the deceased man over the head with an iron bar, the Central Criminal Court was told yesterday.

Mr Eugene Daly (26), of Kilcummin, Killarney, has pleaded not guilty to unlawfully killing his uncle, Mr Patrick Daly (69), in 1996.

In a statement read to the court, the accused man's father, Mr Sean Daly, since deceased, told Garda Maurice O'Connor that he went to his brother's house to discuss a solicitor's letter.

"I picked up the steel thing, you know, in the kitchen, you know, and went out. I hit him across the head around the temple or something", he allegedly said.

"I don't remember, I just lost control of myself. I remember Pat fell to the ground. I was bad with the temper. Gene came out and kicked him, but I hit him, me and me alone."

The trial continues today.
