A Belfast man who committed six robberies, five within an hour and carried out a further four while on the run, was sent to a young offenders' centre for six-and- a-half years yesterday. Belfast Crown Court heard that initially Robert Linton Scott, who will be 22 today, first robbed a Mace Shop in Stranmillis last June.

Prosecution lawyer Steven Fowler said the following day Scott and another man, 19-year-old Philip Michael Hayes returned to the store and robbed it again.

The pair then robbed a taxi-driver, a co-op store and two filling stations but were picked up by police after being identified from CCTV footage.

Judge Norman Lockie heard that both men were remanded into custody but Scott escaped two days later.
