Two people escaped with minor injuries when a light aircraft crash-landed in Co Offaly today.

Two people escaped with minor injuries when a light aircraft crash-landed in Co Offaly today.

Gardaí said the plane was being used by a parachute club and had just let a group of skydivers jump moments before the incident happened.

It is believed the aircraft suffered engine failure as it approached the landing strip at Clonbullogue Airfield, Edenderry, shortly before 3pm.

A team from the Air Accident Investigation Unit was called by gardaí to examine the scene.

A pilot and passenger escaped from the aircraft and were described by gardaí as “walking wounded”.

They were taken to hospital for examination.

The Irish Parachute Club, which is based at the airfield five miles south of Edenderry, said it was unable to comment on the incident.
