A married couple have asked the Circuit Civil Court to direct a local authority to sell them their county council home, currently worth £125,000, for a previously agreed figure of £24,300.

Mr Brian Leonard SC, counsel for Brendan and Margaret Boylan, told the court that the Boylans, of Kilcross Road, Sandyford, Co Dublin, applied in 1995 to Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to purchase their home under the Housing (Sale of Dwellings) Regulations, 1995.

He told Judge Bryan McMahon that the council in October 1995 offered to sell the Boylans their home for £24,300, but, through no fault of his clients, had since sought to go back on the agreement. The case continues.
