A grandson of Independent Dublin city councillor and former Sinn Féin member Christy Burke who is charged with IRA membership and firearms offences was freed on bail by the Special Criminal Court in Dublin today.
Ciaran Burke (20) of Ferrycarrig Park, Coolock, Dublin was charged on Wednesday with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely the Irish Republican Army.
He was also charged with the unlawful possession of a 9mm parabellum Glock semi-automatic pistol and thirteen rounds of 9mm parabellum ammunition at the N32, Coolock, Dublin 13 on the same date.
The court today freed Burke on bail on his own bond of €100 and an independent surety of €20,000.
He was ordered to sign on daily at Coolock Garda Station, to observe a curfew between 11 pm and 7 am daily, to surrender his passport and not to associate with anyone convicted of or charged with a scheduled offence.
Prosecution solicitor Ms Helen Kealy said there was no objection to bail.
The court remanded Burke on bail until October 26th next when the case will be mentioned again.
